How can you help your student?

There are many ways you can support your student and help them to be successful here at Hurricane Intermediate, and help them establish healthy academic habits at a young age. Here are a few ideas to get you started:

  1. Talk to your student. Take time every day to ask your student about what they are learning in classes, which teachers they like, if they're struggling with anything. Keep lines of communication open with them and let them know you care.

  2. Make goals and set expectations. Help your student create a positive learning environment for themselves and others - help teach them respect for others, set expectations for attendance, and encourage them to get involved in extracurricular activities. If you need help setting goals or coming up with solutions, meet with your student's counselor to discuss what strategies will work best for your student.

  3. Stay in contact with teachers and counselors. If your student is having a difficult time in a class, the first person we'll recommend you contact is their teacher! Our teachers can be reached via email on our HIS faculty page, and we encourage parents to attend parent-teacher conferences if possible. Counselors are always available to help students have conversations with their teachers, mediate with friends and peers, and support you and your student.

  4. Let us know if you need additional support. We do our best to know each and every student, but sometimes we need help identifying students that are in need academically, physically, socially, or mentally. You can help us support you by letting us know if anything is going on that is affecting your student here at school. We are always available via phone, email, or by stopping by. Remember, we are here to help our students above all!

Please complete our needs assessment!

Our program is based on the needs of our students, parents, and teachers. By completing our counseling survey, you provide valuable feedback that allows us to tailor our program to our school and students. The survey only takes a few minutes to complete. Thank you for your support!
